Information for our guests! 😊

    • There are many chain drug stores in the Muskegon and Whitehall areas.

    • One rather unique store, however, is Pitkin’s in Whitehall. In addition to a drugstore, the shop has rather interesting gifts.

  • The Muskegon and Whitehall areas have many interesting and diverse restaurants. The internet will help you find dining that will meet your needs and budget.

Especially interesting (all with websites) are:

    • The Muskegon area is well known for its small breweries. This website will help you make some decisions. Most of these spots offer food as well as beverages.

  • Many of the breweries offer live entertainment, especially on weekends.

    • During summer months, the nearby Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp offers free concerts, plays and dance recitals with student performances, as well as some “faculty” events. The Saturday night July orchestral concerts are especially interesting.

    • The Red Rooster (near you) occasionally has live jazz on Sunday afternoons

    • Dockers near the south channel between Lake Michigan and Muskegon Lake at the live music on Sunday afternoons and early evenings in the summer. There is a full bar and decent food ($$)

    • Rainy Days do happen. If you are looking for things to do on a cold or rainy day, you are in a good place.

    • The Muskegon Museum of Art is considered to have the second-best collection of art in Michigan. The original building was designed by the architect of the Chicago Art Institute. Anybody who has had a basic art history course will actually recognize some of the pieces in the collection. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

    • The White River Light Station and Museum is located at the south channel from Lake Michigan into White Lake. It is at 6199 Murray Road – north of the cottage. It is a small but interesting place to spend some time. Interestingly, if the lake level is low, it is very possible to see a 100 year old shipwreck just south of the breakwater, near the beach.

    • The Muskegon Museum of Art is actually a collection of sites in Muskegon. Of special interest are the Hackley/Hume homes – amazing restored Victorian homes built in the 1800’s by Muskegon Lumber Barons.

    • Veterans and military aficionados will appreciate two other museums in Muskegon. The Silversides Museum, on the south channel in Muskegon, and the White River Light Station and Museum, located on Muskegon Lake, in downtown Muskegon. The Silversides is an actual WW II submarine famous for its exploits in the Pacific. The LST 393 is one of the last remaining landing ships from the war. She was active in the invasions of Sicily and Normandy.

    • The Frauenthal Center for the performing Arts.

    • Public Golf Courses - There are many public golf courses in the Muskegon/Whitehall area. This website will give you a good overview of the courses, and their varying quality.

    • The Winter Sports Complex in North Muskegon, located less than a mile from our cottages. Amateurs as well as top athletes may run the Luge courses, go cross country skiing, enjoy ice skating and other winter activity along the shores of Lake Michigan!

    • Muskegon State Park, has miles of pristine beach both on Lake Michigan and Muskegon Lake. The park is just a short few miles from our cottages.

    • Downtown Whitehall and downtown Montague have some unique small town shops.

    • Grand Haven, which is about 30 minutes south has a very interesting downtown with shops and restaurants.

    • WBLV, a service of Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp at 90.3 FM

  • There are few grocery stores that are convenient.

    • If you need to “stock up”, the Meijer Store on Holton Road in North Muskegon is your best bet. It is on the route most guest will take to the cottage.

    • Montague Foods, across the bridge from Whitehall is a very good store.

There are many convenience and liquor stores along Whitehall Road.

    • The Cheese Lady, in Muskegon is a gem. If you are a cheese fan, GO! They also have a selection of olive oils, specialty foods and wine.

    • There are a number of home vendors along Giles Road, mostly west of the township hall, close to Scenic Drive that offer firewood at varying prices.

    • These are “honor payment” spots – please plan to leave cash.
